Integrated Building Materials Company Byucksan(CEO Sungshik Kim) said on October 8 that it will launch strategic business cooperation today, starting with the opening of the Fire Protection Research Center of the Korea Testing & Research Institute(KTR)(Director Kwon Oh Jung, referred to as KTR).
Fire Protection Research Center agreed October last year to jointly build a test building for building environment to solve the difficulties of the building materials industry due to a lack of fire performance test facilities for fire doors in Korea, and opened for an opening ceremony.
Particularly, this Fire Protection Research Center is regarded as the first industry-related cooperation best practice in Korea in a way that attracts private capital investment and is operated independently by authorized testing and certification agencies.
KTR plans to provide certified testing and performance evaluation services for fire safety performance of buildings through test centers, while expanding testing and certification services such as fire-resistant structural testing of roofs, performance testing of lightweight walls and real-size fire testing of external finishing materials.
About 30 people attended the opening ceremony, including Byucksan CEO Sungshik Kim, KTR President Oh-jung Kwon, and Korea Fire-rating Building Material Association Chairman Wookhwan Cho, to visit the center's test room and look forward to continued development of various technologies related to fire safety in the future.
Byucksan CEO Sungshik Kim said, "We have suffered considerable casualties and economic losses in the past few years due to various fires at home and abroad. The opening of the Fire Protection Research Center will improve existing problems while also providing a bridgehead for continued technological development and building social safety infrastructure for the changing future architectural environment.”
